This steep site in Sydney’s east proved a challenging and rewarding year-long project for KMD Stonemasonry. A series of old, unstable retaining walls were deconstructed and rebuilt using both new and re-used large sandstone blocks. Two large staircases were built from concrete and clad in sawn sandstone, and extensive sandstone flagging was laid around the house entrance, pool and entertaining terrace. Poor access meant all materials had to be hand carried or craned in from the street – a challenge the KMD team embraced.
